			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Question : I have an E70B Cat Excavator that works fine when it is first started. Then about 30 minutes of working it will not swing left or right and the left final seems not to work. Shut it off and let it set for 30 minutes and it will work fine for 30 minutes and then it will do it again. We did change a hose that was leaking to the joy stick that makes it swing left and right and changed the hydrolic fluid and filters recently.</p>
<p>Answer :
<p>The common part here could be the front pump. It sends oil to both the swing and final drive. It also supplies the boom valve. You should notice the boom being slow as well if it is the pump. To find if pressure is off you will need to connect gouges to the pump output ports and compare them as it warms. Also check the case drain line from the pump. If it is draining a large quantity of oil under load the pump maybe failing. </p>
<p>This can be different on some machines, it all depends on your serial number.</p>

<p>Here are the four versions. They operate similarly but, could have some minor differences. I hope this can help, if you need more info, I will be glad to help.</p>
</p>
<p>Pilot Hydraulic System</p>
<p>There are two possible type of arrangements of the pilot hydraulic system. The connections on a particular machine depend on the control arrangement of the machine.</p>
<p>Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6865 for information on the control arrangements on the following machines: 3JN1-578, 3KN1-438, 3LN1-749, 3NN1-783, 3RN1-1071, 5WM1-1587 and 4TM1-1234.</p>
<p>Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7112 for information on the control arrangements on the following machines:, 3JN579-1509, 3KN439-UP, 3LN750-UP, 3NN784-UP, 3RN1072-4014, 5WM1588-6020 and 4TM1235-4013.</p>
<p>A pilot pressure reducing valve is located in the control manifold valve of the bank valve. The pressure reducing valve supplies a pressure of 2650 ± 150 kPa (384 ± 22 psi) to the pilot hydraulic system.</p>
<p>Pilot flow from the reducing valve is through a tee fitting which supplies the joystick control, and the manifold for the solenoid pilot control valves.</p>
<p>The manifold contains the differential lock control valve, and three implement solenoid valves.</p>
<p>On early machines, one of the solenoid valves is mounted separately on the right rear engine mounting bracket. Machines that are equipped with a lockout control have a fifth solenoid valve that is installed in the control solenoid manifold. For additional information, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, &#8220;Access Platform&#8221;. </p>
</p>

<p>Side movement of the joystick controls the tilt cylinder for the quick coupler. The rocker switch on top of the joystick controls the cylinder for the boom extend/retract. Pilot flow that is needed to operate the cylinder for the boom extend/retract passes through the control solenoid manifold. Pilot flow that is needed to operate the tilt cylinder for the quick coupler passes directly from the joystick to the bank valve.</p>
<p>When solenoid valves (10) and (11) are energized, the boom extends.</p>
<p>When solenoid valve (12) is energized, the boom retracts. </p>
<p>Controls in Hold<br />The pilot pressure for operation of the tilt cylinder is blocked at the joystick. Pilot pressure for operation of the hydraulic cylinder for the boom extend/retract is transmitted through ports (P1) and (P2). Solenoid valves (11) and (12) are blocked at ports (B1) and (B2) which are plugged. </p>
<p>Boom Extend<br />When the right side of the rocker switch on top of the joystick control is pressed, solenoid valve (10) and solenoid valve (11) are energized. Pilot pressure is transmitted through solenoid valves (10) and (11) and port (A2) to the port for the boom extend of the bank valve. The retract port is connected to the tank through port (A1) and solenoid valve (12) which is de-energized. </p>
<p>Boom Retract<br />When the left side of the rocker switch on top of the joystick control is pressed, solenoid valve (12) is energized. Pilot pressure is transmitted through solenoid valves (12) and port (A1) to the port for the boom retract of the bank valve. The extend port is connected to the tank through port (A2) and solenoid valve (10) which is de-energized. </p>
<p>Tilt for the Quick Coupler<br />When you move the joystick control to the left or to the right pilot pressure is transmitted directly from the joystick control to the control valve (tilt) for the quick coupler. Return pilot oil passes from the control valve for tilt to the joystick control. </p>
</p>

<p>Side movement of the joystick can control either the tilt cylinder for the coupler or the boom extend cylinder. The pilot oil from the joystick flows through the solenoid valve (14) when the cylinder for the coupler tilt moves or when the boom extends or the boom retracts.</p>
<p>Solenoid valves (10) and (11) control the pilot flow to the tilt cylinder for the coupler and the pilot flow from the tilt cylinder for the coupler. When solenoid valves (10) and (11) are energized, these solenoid valves control pilot flow to the port and from the port for the tilt forward on the bank valve. When the solenoid valves are de-energized, solenoid valve (11) controls flow to the port for the boom extend. Solenoid valve (12) controls flow for the tilt back for the quick coupler when the solenoid valve is energized. Solenoid valve (12) also controls the flow for the boom retract when the valve is de-energized. </p>
<p>Control in Hold<br />Pilot pressure for the operation for the tilt forward and for the tilt back is blocked at the joystick control. Also, pilot pressure for the operation for the boom extend/retract is blocked at the joystick control. </p>
<p>Tilt Back for the Quick Coupler</p>
</p>
<p>Press and hold push button (2). Push joystick control (1) to the left in order to tilt the quick coupler in a backward direction. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position. Solenoid valves (10), (11), and (12 ) are energized. Pilot pressure is transmitted from port (4) of the joystick control through port (P1), and through solenoid valve (12) and through port (A1) to the port for tilt back for the quick coupler. The port for tilt forward is connected to the tank through port (A2), through solenoid valves (10) and (11) and through port (P2) and the joystick. </p>
<p>Tilt Forward for the Quick Coupler<br />Press and hold push button (2). Then push joystick control (1) to the right in order to tilt the quick coupler forward. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position. Solenoid valves (10), (11), and (12 ) are energized. Pilot pressure is transmitted from port (2) of the joystick control through the following components: Port (P2), solenoid valve (11), solenoid valve (10), Port (A2) and port for tilt forward on the control valve. The port for the tilt back position is connected to the tank through Port (A1), solenoid valve (12), through Port (P1) and the joystick. </p>
<p>Boom Extend<br />All solenoid valves are de-energized. Push joystick control (1) to the right in order to extend the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position. Pilot pressure is transmitted from the joystick through the following components: Port (P2), solenoid valve (11), Port (B2) and port on the control valve for boom extend. The port for the boom retract is connected to the tank through the following components: Port (B1), solenoid valve (12), Port (P1) and joystick. </p>
<p>Boom Retract<br />All solenoid valves are de-energized. Push joystick control (1) to the left in order to retract the boom. When the joystick control is released, the joystick control will return to the HOLD position. Pilot pressure from the joystick to port (P1), through solenoid valve (12), through port (B1), and to the port for the retract position of the control valve. The port for the boom extend is connected to the tank through port (B2), through solenoid valve (11), through port (P2) and the joystick. </p>
<p>Service Brake Master Cylinder<br />Pressure is transmitted from port (X2) on the control solenoid manifold to the boost pressure port on the service brake master cylinder.</p>
<p>On machines with a type 1 service brake system, flow is blocked at the inlet port of the master cylinder when the service brake is released. When the brakes are applied, pilot pressure can act on the master cylinder piston.</p>
<p>On machines that are equipped with type 2 service brake system, oil flow is blocked at the master cylinder when the brakes are fully released. However, a quantity of the oil circulates from the boost cylinder to the tank. This will take place when the brakes are applied or when the brakes are released. For additional information on the brake system, refer to Service Manual, SENR5844. </p>
<p>Differential Lock<br />When the differential lock switch is in the DISENGAGE position, valve (13) is de-energized. The line at port (Y) for the cylinder for the differential lock is connected to the tank and the differential lock is held disengaged by spring force.</p>
<p>When the switch is in the ENGAGE position, solenoid valve (13) is energized. Pilot pressure is transmitted to the differential lock cylinder through Port (X1) and port (Y). The differential lock is moved into engagement. For additional information on the operation of the differential lock, refer to Service Manual, SENR5839. </p>

<p>The lockout control is operated by a two-position key switch. When the key switch is turned counterclockwise, all of the machine functions are operational.</p>
<p>When the key switch is turned clockwise only the boom cylinder and the telescoping cylinder can be operated. When the key switch is turned clockwise the transmission control, the tilt cylinder, the auxiliary cylinder, the frame leveling cylinder (if equipped) and the stabilizer cylinders (if equipped) are locked out.</p>
<p>Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7112, &#8220;Lockout Control&#8221; for more information.</p>
<p>The key switch is used to control the tilt cylinder via solenoid valves (12) and (13) .</p>
<p>When the key switch is turned counterclockwise solenoid valves (12) and (13) are energized to the open position and the tilt cylinder can be operated via the joystick.</p>
<p>When the key switch is turned clockwise, solenoid valves (12) and (13) are de-energized and the tilt cylinder can not be operated via the joystick.</p>
<p>When the boom is being extended, solenoid valve (14) is energized to the open position. When the boom is being retracted, solenoid valve (15) is energized.</p>
<p>Note: Refer to the electrical circuit diagram in Schematic, RENR3407, &#8220;Electrical System Schematic&#8221; for information concerning lockout control of the transmission, the frame leveling cylinder and the stabilizer cylinders. </p>
