Jul25Question : I have a Cub Cadet LT1042. It leaves a swatch of grass on the right side mangled but not cut. The tire pressures are even, I have leveled the deck, and even overcompensated to the right side and it still occurs. New blades have been installed this year and it made no difference at all. I can not loosen the jamb nut on the front to try and adjust that part of the deck. I have hammered on it with an impact on more than one ocassion. Any clues?
Answer :
| This is a very common problem with this and other mowers. First. Make sure that you are not mowing at too fast a pace, You may be putting too much grass under the mower for it to handle well. Slow down. Second: As silly as this may sound, please take a look and make sure that you have the blades on right side up. I can’t tell you the number of cutting problems I solve simply by putting the blades on correctly. 3rd. Take a look at the blades. Make sure that they are very sharp and that the are in good condition. The corners cannot be rounded off they must be squared to a point, Mower blades usually only use the first 1/4″ to do most of the cutting. That is what comes in contact with the grass first. The corner is also what keeps the mower from leaving a strip in the lawn between the blades. 4th: Take the mower deck off of the tractor and turn the mower deck over and look to make sure that the blades line up with each other. If the tip of one blade is lower than the tip of another blade when you line them up, then you have one of three problems. 1. Blades are bent. 2. blade spindle is bent. 3. deck is bent……all of which must be corrected before the mower will cut correctly. 5th: Check the tire pressure. All tires must be at the same pressure. If this is a tractor. They must all be at 12lbs. Just 1 lb difference in one tire pressure can cause the lower to cut up to 3’4″ lower on that side. This is the most missed problem in quality of cut issues 6th: Make sure that the mower deck has been leveled correctly. When the tractor is on a level surface such as a concrete garage floor, and with the blades facing from front to back…..measure from the front tip of the front blade and the back tip of one of the back blades. There should be no more that 1/16″ lower in front. any more difference and the mower will not cut correctly. The mower would then need to be adjusted, |
