$15 : I just bought a little place in Key Largo. A previous owner

Question : I just bought a little place in Key Largo. A previous owner apparently used grout like icing to cover the kitchen counter (no tiles, just grout). Eventually, I’ll rip and replace this DIY effort. But to save time and money, I wonder if I can just sand the surface and paint with one of the super lacquers made for painting cabinets? Suggestions?

Answer : You may be able to accomplish what you have in mind, however the initial step probably won’t be “sanding.” More like “grinding.” I suggest you use an angle grinder with a disk used for concrete to get the main part pretty smooth. Then you will be able to have some success with sanding. Any paint store or department can advise you on a paint product but for sure you will want an “enamel” and at least “semi-gloss” if not high gloss. Also to get paint to adhere you will need to apply primer. Dennis (cut2it)
